In this tour we climb one of the highest summits in Morocco Amsoud known by Mgoun. The walk on the ridges makes from this climb one of the most spectaculars. The approach's walk permits to visit the beautiful valley of Bougmez. The muddy villages with the traditional architecture and the smiling and welcome population are a good bonus of this tour.
Day one: arrival in Marrakech and spend the night in the medina in a riad.
Day two: we drive up to the central High Atlas. On the way at the pass before the valley we have a good view on the target mountain. We continue down to the beginning of Bougmez valley. In Arous valley we find our muleteers and start our walk. We go up the valley and camp after the shepherd house at Ikkis.
Day three: today we climb very high. The pass is at 3400m on the Aghoury Mountain. The view is beautiful and general on the Mgoun ridge and all the area. The descent is quick to camp site at the base of Mgoun at 2900m on Tarkdit plateau. We have free afternoon to rest and prepared for the next day.
Day four: this the target day of the tour. An early start is necessary because we climb the Mgoun top. After three hours walking we arrive on the ridge and have a nice a general view on the central High Atlas. It is musing to climb a quite high mountain without any strange equipement. We only need good boots. It is really wonderful to walk on this mountain. To stand on the top at 4070m is a very important moment in the life. We come down to the beginning of the valley for camp.
Day five: today is a relaxing day, we walk down the valley sometimes the flocks of Goths and sheep close the path for us. They have the priority because we wait for them to pass. The transhumant lives in the caves and small stony house. The camp site is a peaceful place.
Day six: we only need to climb the small pass of Ait Imi 2905m. On the pass we just stop and look behind to see the big mountain we climbed two days ago. Then we come down to the cold and clear spring for lunch. In the afternoon we find the villages and people of the Bougmez valley. They are nice and friendly. We spend the night in a house village.
Day seven: we travel back to Marrakech and come back to the modern civilisation. But on the way we appreciate the lunch in the waterfalls of Ouzoud.
Day eight: this is the end of the trip.
